We stayed at Phyllis's lovely cottage for a week and had everything we could possibly need. The cottage has a lovely room for my son overlooking the fields and ponies and the main bedroom is ample size and very cosy. Phyllis is an excellent host and made us feel extremely welcome to the point that we really fell in love with her property! Barnacle cottage is unique,a special place to stay and I highly recommend staying there
Lovely cottage - excellent facilities - in a gorgeous location. The cottage looks out over open fields and has a large, private garden for guests to use. Galmpton is a very pretty village - there is a local shop/post office and a very nice pub a short walk away. Even lack of sunshine didn't spoil our stay there - plenty to do/see in the vicinity without having to spend half the day driving. Well appointed kitchen - induction hob, freezer, fridge and microwave so no need to eat out - unless you want to. The cottage was clean, cosy and the bed extremely comfortable and has a flat screen TV and two sofas to relax in the evening after a hard day's exploring the many places of interest. We went somewhere different every day. We took our Samoyed dog with us - dogs are welcome almost everywhere - lots of lovely places to walk, or sit and just admire the glorious scenery. The only down-side was having to leave. We were welcomed by Phyllis, the owner, with a delicious cream tea and locally produced jam (I discovered you can buy it at the local store - a short walk away - so I stocked up before heading home!) She could not have been more helpful - a really lovely lady. Brixham is a delightful little fishing village - and everyone was very friendly. A truly memorable, restful and relaxing holiday. Cannot wait to stay there again.
We had a wonderful short stay in October. Our lovely hostess/landlady even managed to arrange beautiful weather for us. A welcoming touch was the Devonshire tea with lovely local jam waiting for us when we arrived. Our only small problem was the shower, we didn't quite manage to make it work, but we had lovely hot baths instead. In fact the whole cottage was warm and cosy. There was lots to do in the surrounding area. places to visit, great walks, especailly on the beaches, for us and the dog. The whole area was very dog friendly with shops and restuarants inviting us in with the dog.
Although we had a little bad luck with the weather, we enjoyed our stay very much. Phyllis was very nice and helpful and we liked her very much. The cottage and garden were beautiful. We and our dog enjoyed the tours in the wonderful landscape of Devon. We would definetely recommend a stay for holidays in this wonderful cottage.
I went to write whilst making a BBC TV documentary The big Silence' in which a shot of Barnacle cottage features. I loved my time there, a very special moment in my life where I made some lifechanging decisions. Phyllis was wonderful and made sure a lost and lonely soul had all I needed to make my stay comfortable and pleasant. A perfect getaway!
A friend and I were looking for a relaxing few days away and came across Barnacle Cottage. It looked lovely on the website and certainly didnt disappoint in real life. it was extremely comfortable, had everything you could possibly need and was a great base to come back to. The location is great with it being so central and is within easy driving distance of so many lovely places. We were both made to feel very welcome as was our little dog. We couldnt have wished for a nicer place to stay and certainly intend to return when staying in Devon. The beds were extremely comfortable, we both slept like logs ! Cant fault anything at all - a perfect place to stay. Phyllis was a joy to deal with and the Cream Tea on arrival was much appreciated after a long drive down.
We have just returned home following our second holiday at Barnacle cottage and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Barnacle cottage is cosy, comfortable and well equipped to meet all your needs during your stay with extremely comfortable beds. The location is perfect, with far reaching views over fields and a huge garden that the whole family loved. We found it the perfect base to explore the picturesque local beaches, River Dart, go for long walks and visit the many attractions within the area. These included the Greenways walk, crabbing off of Dittisham Pier, Elberry Cove, Broadsands, Goodrington sands, riding on the steam railway, shopping in Dartmouth and the kids loved Woodlands Leisure park!
Just returned from 4 day stay with my 2yo granddaughter, welcomed by owner with Scones, jam & cream. Cottage in delightful location on a quiet country road but close enough to walk to local village, great shops with very friendly and helpful staff, supplying local produce, butcher is a great source of knowledge. We had a great time and were lucky to have sunny weather each day. Would rate this cottage A*
A lovely cottage in a great location. Phyllis was really helpful and friendly too and we felt very welcome. Great garden for the dog too.
We stayed in Phyllis' adorable little cottage for a week in April. Despite the biting cold and rain we had a lovely time. The cottage is full of charm and in beautiful surroundings. The garden out the back is beautiful and brilliant to hang out in when the weather is good. Inside the cottage is really cosy and warm and equipped with everything you might need and more. The beds are super comfy and ideal for lengthy lie-ins. Phyllis is a very good and accommodating host. Quick and clear communication and very helpful with any requests we had. There was also a lot of really useful info about activities, both for sunny and rainy days. All in all a very nice stay was had by all.
